ABOUT THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP – FIELDS COVERED
Netflix, in partnership with Tshikululu Social Investments, is inviting Postgraduate students to apply for scholarship funding, for the 2022 academic year.
The bursary is available for 1 year of postgraduate studies, towards Film, Television and/or audio-visual related qualifications, at one of the approved institutions listed below. Black creatives within the film and TV disciplines, are encouraged to apply.
The Netflix Scholarship is part of the companies “Black Creatives Empowerment Fund”, which will include around R5.5 million worth of funding being used to improve Black representation in the film and TV industry in South Africa.
Funding will be available via scholarships, as well as cancelling student debts, and a donation towards the Independent Black Filmmakers Collective.
MORE ABOUT THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION
The scholarship will provide full cover for study-related expenses.
Applicants will partake in initial screening and vetting – successful candidates they will be passed on to the Selection Committee who will then make the final decision.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
You must be a South African citizen
You must be Black (Black, Coloured or Indian – as defined by the
B-BBEE Code of Conduct)
You must have completed Matric
You must have completed an undergraduate degree OR be
completing an undergraduate degree (degree must have been completed between 2019 and 2021)
You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60%
You must be studying or intend on studying towards a 1 year
Postgraduate qualification in Film, Television and/or Audio-Visual related studies
You must NOT be in receipt of another bursary award or NSFAS funding
You must be studying or intend on studying at one of these approved institutions:

Durban University of Technology
Tshwane University of Technology
University of Cape Town
University of Johannesburg
University of Pretoria
University of the Witwatersrand
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP
Applications must be submitted online at: Netflix Scholarship Application 2022
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
ID document (certified copy)
Matric National Senior Certificate results
Current undergraduate students: full academic record including most recent results (on university letterhead)
Students who have completed an undergraduate degree:
Official transcript of results
Proof of application to at least 1 of the above eligible tertiary institutions (it is advisable to apply at more than 1 institute)
Essay 1: about yourself, your family and your background (maximum 500 words)
Essay 2: why you want to study your selected programme, and how you see your qualification furthering your career (maximum 500 words)
Essay 3: why should you be selected for the Netflix scholarship (maximum 500 words)
Note: All documents will undergo a verification and vetting process.
